Connect Facebook and Instagram (Meta)

One Meta login connects a Facebook Page and the Instagram professional account linked to it.

What you need

  • A Facebook account that manages the brand's Facebook Page.
  • For Instagram: a professional (Business or Creator) Instagram account linked to that Page in Meta. A personal Instagram account cannot be connected.
  • The brand_manage permission on the brand in this app.

Connecting

  1. Open the brand's Connections and press Connect on Facebook. You sign in at Meta and grant the permissions listed there.
  2. Choose the Facebook Page for this brand. The list is every Page your Meta login can manage, not only the one already saved.
  3. Use the Instagram tile to pick the Instagram professional account linked to that Page. If none appears, link Instagram to the Page in Meta, then Refresh.

The permissions the connection actually holds are listed on the tile, so you can see when Meta granted less than was asked for.

What the connection does

Publishes to the Page and the Instagram account, reads their results for analytics, brings comments and messages into the inbox, brings Facebook recommendations into reviews, and — when an ad account is bound — reads Meta Ads results. Alt text you add to images in the composer is sent with the post.

Reconnecting and disconnecting

Meta tokens expire and are revoked when a password changes or a Page admin leaves. A daily check flags any connection that has stopped working; the brand shows a Reconnect prompt and the people who chose to be told get a notification. Disconnecting removes our copy of the tokens; drafts and scheduled posts stay in the app. Both actions are written to the audit log.
